Remember to Slow Down in School Zones & Follow These Safety Tips!

Austin Driving in School ZonesWhen driving in school zones, it is imperative that you follow all driving laws and remain within the speed limit. The roads become increasingly more dangerous as the schools fill with children, and it is our duty to keep them safe. When you drop your child off at school, you want to know that they are safe. Gathered are some vital safety tips for driving in school zones that every driver must follow:

  • Be sure to slow down when driving in school zones. While you may think school zone driving laws only apply during school hours, they apply whenever children are present. Therefore, you must keep soccer practice, football games, and tutoring sessions in mind. It is better, and safer, to always drive slower in school zones.
  • Always keep your foot hovering over the brake. You never know when a young child will decide they want to cross the street.
  • Never load or unload children in dangerous situations.
  • Most importantly, abide by all school bus regulatory laws and do not pass a school bus that has its flashing lights on and stop sign extended. This is illegal and causes a very dangerous environment for children.
