6 Home Maintenance Tips for Your Home

Dallas Home Maintenance Tips

Our homes require consistent maintenance in order to prevail through the various seasons. Your homeowners’ insurance policy will only fix damage, not wear and tear. Therefore, it is important that you add these 5 tasks to your home maintenance to-do list:

  1. It is important that you make sure that all smoke alarms in your home are working properly and do not need a battery replacement. This should be done on a regular basis.
  2. You must regularly clear your gutters of debris and leaves. Doing so will help you avoid flooding and mold after heavy rains fill your gutters.
  3. It is important to clean the coils of your refrigerator at least every 6 months.
  4. Set a date each year where you clean all vents and filters in your entire home.  It is best to change your HVAC filters monthly.
  5. Make sure to perform the necessary maintenance on all of your water-based appliances, checking for leaks, rust and corrosion.  This is especially important for water heaters and even more so when the water heater is inside the house or in the attic.
  6. If you use a wood burning fireplace on a regular basis, it is a good idea to have the chimney professionally cleaned once every 1 – 2 years.
