7 Step Process For Handling A Car Accident

Dallas Auto Insurance

Whether you are in a small fender bender or a three car pileup, car accidents are scary and leave you feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Compiled are the 7 steps to take if you are involved in an accident:

  1. If you are able to, safely move your car to a safer area and turn your hazard lights on.
  2. Turn the engine off and take a deep breath. Once the coast is clear, step out of your vehicle.
  3. It is important that you check for injuries and call for emergency responders if necessary.
  4. If there are injuries or if any of the vehicles involved are not able to be moved from traffic areas, it is a good idea to call the police so that they can secure the scene of the accident and render assistance. You will want to obtain a copy of the police report as soon as it is available.
  5. Gather the vital information from the other parties involved: all names, insurance information, license plate number, makes and models of all involved vehicles, the contact information of other drivers involved and eyewitnesses, location and time of the accident, and finally, the information of police officers if on the scene.
  6. Take pictures of the scene and all vehicles involved in the accident.
  7. Call our office to discuss the incident and determine your course of action.
