American Heart Month: Of What to be Aware

American Heart Month: Of What to be Aware

Today and for the entire month of February is American Heart Month. Do you know if your heart is healthy to last you a long time?

Besides dinner and some personal gifts, the best gift you can get your significant other is the gift of a healthy heart. Along with Black History Month and Valentine’s Day, February also marks American Heart Month–a great time to commit some time and awareness to the muscle responsible for pumping blood to every single cell in your body. Here are a few steps you can take to ensure that your heart stays healthy for the coming years–and with the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) at risk of being taken away from millions of hard-working Americans, heart health may be something to which you put serious attention and effort.

How to Make a Difference

  • Exercise – Your heart, like all other muscles, needs to exercise to gain strength. Start by walking 15 minutes, 3 times a week. After two weeks, increase that time to 30 minutes. You can listen to your favorite music or podcast as you do so!
  • Eat Healthily – Eat vegetables every day and cut back on saturated fats and red meats. Additionally, you should reduce your meat consumption to only once a week. It does wonders for your heart and the environment.
  • Schedule Visits with Your Doc – It is important to schedule regular check-ups with your doctor, even if you are not ill. The doctor can detect any irregularities and address them before they become serious health issues that require more time, money, and increase the risk of death.

Your heart is the most important muscle in your body–it keeps you alive and supplies oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to every part of your body. To be insured against any problems that may arise, contact VGW Walker Insurance for all of your Texas health insurance needs.
