Boating Safety 101
Boating is one of the best ways to enjoy the summer! However, it can also turn into a very dangerous activity if one of your passengers falls overboard during your trip. Keep these tips in mind to know how to deal with an overboard passenger.
- Stop the boat as soon as the person hits the water so that they do not come in contact with the propeller.
- Throw a floatation device to the overboard person until you are able to bring the boat back around.
- Approach the person in the water from downwind so that you will have more control over the boat.
- Help the person back into the boat using a ladder, lifeline, or swim platform.
Keep in mind that nobody should ever jump into the water to help save an overboard passenger since it will just make the rescue much more difficult.
