July is UV Safety Month and extreme temperatures of the summer months call for an increased need to adequately protect our largest organ – our skin. UV rays are extremely dangerous and cause skin cancer. The good news is that skin cancer is preventable, as long as you start practicing sun safety habits. Keep these 4 important sun safety tips in mind all year long:
- You should wear sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15 every single day, even when it is gloomy. Don’t miss the stubborn areas and be sure to reapply throughout the day.
- UV Rays are strongest in between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Remember to be extra cautious during these times and stay in the shade whenever possible.
- Remember to wear protective clothing if sun exposure will be maximized. Consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face. It is important that you wear loose fitting clothing of light colors.
- Many people ignore the importance of protecting the eyes. Be sure to wear sunglasses when you are outside.
