Setting Your Clocks Back? Do This, Too!

Setting Your Clocks BackThese semiannual to-dos are perfect to do when you set your clocks back.

If you’re not loving getting up in the dark, you’re probably waiting for the days to pass until we can all set our clocks back and get an extra hour of morning sunshine.

Changing your timepieces isn’t the only change to make, though. Check these semiannual maintenance tasks off each time you change your clocks to keep your house safe!

  • Pull the batteries out of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in favor of fresh ones. Put the old batteries in non-essential equipment like remotes or toys until they die.
  • Change your furnace filter.
  • Update any software you have protecting your computers and/or mobile phones against malware and viruses.
  • Go through your medicine cabinet and throw out anything that’s expired.
  • Switch your ceiling fan direction. The fan should turn counterclockwise in the warmer months to push cool air down, but should be switched to clockwise now so warmer air will be forced down.
  • Update your home inventory.

This is also the perfect time to review your insurance coverage and make sure you still have the right protection! To get the Texas policies you need, contact VGW Walker Insurance.
