While your car may not be able to speak, it does have some effective ways of conveying information to you.
When your car flashes its light on your dashboard, it’s trying to tell you something. These lights are normally a sign that something is wrong and requires your attention. Not every light means impending doom, but no warning light should ever be ignored. While the problem may start off small it can quickly escalate to something much more serious (and expensive). If you are fortunate enough to have only seen one or two of these signals, or none, here are a few things you should know for when they do turn on.
Oil Pressure Light
The oil pressure light resembles an oil can. This indicates that there are alarmingly low levels of oil in your engine and has the potential to cause the greatest damage to your car. If this light turns on, make sure to pull over, turn off the engine, and call for assistance.
Check Engine Light
The check engine light comes on and can have two different meanings. When the check engine light is simply illuminated it means there’s a slight engine problem that should be checked out. When it’s blinking, it means there’s an engine misfire that could make repairs harder, thus making it more expensive.
Charging System Light
Charging system light is usually a battery symbol and means that the battery is dead. Most people see this light when they accidentally leave their headlights on overnight. Jump-starting the battery usually solves this issue.
